Petra Timmer (1958) studied art history at the University of Utrecht. PhD in 2000 at the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam. Dissertation: Metz & Co - the creative years / Avant-garde and commerce. Petra has been working for over 20 years as an independent curator, researcher, author, lecturer and projectmanager.

From the mid eighties Petra worked as free lancer with numerous cultural institutions and leading museums in The Netherlands and abroad. Initiated and organized exhibitions in e.g. the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam, Institut Néerlandais in Paris, Städtische Kunstsammlungen Chemnitz, IVAM Valencia, Erasmushuis Jakarta, National Gallery Kuala Lumpur and the het Manila Metropolitan Museum.

Worked as (policy) researcher, project manager and publicist for, among others, the State Agency for Cultural heritage (ICN), Rijksmuseum Schiphol, the Sikkens Foundation, the Ministry of Culture, the Premsela Foundation for Dutch design and Museum Catharijneconvent. Was overall responsible for complex projects (mainly exhibitions, publications, audio-visual productions and conferences). Since 2007, co-owner of TiMe (Timmer & Meijer) Amsterdam.

Her expertise in the field of  twentieth-century applied art often leads to specific consultancy requests from auction houses, collectors and museums worldwide.

Petra Timmer is the author of several monographs and numerous articles in the field of visual arts, design, collection management and cultural policy. An extensive bibliography and curriculum vitae are available upon request.

Core competencies: twentieth-century art and design, collection management, project management, patronage, art and commerce, bilateral and multilateral projects and cultural exchanges.

Within TiMe Amsterdam Petra Timmer is active as a consultant (art history) researcher, author, editor and project manager. Currenlly she is research fellow at University Utrecht, Faculty of Humanities, Dept. History and Art History..
